Tokyo’s Rikugi-en – Illumination of Weeping Cherry Blossoms and Daimyo Teien

A Famous Cherry Blossom Viewing Location, With Around 200,000 Visitors Annually

Rikugi-en is one of Japan’s Nationally Designated Places of Scenic Beauty. This traditional Japanese garden was built by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, favored retainer of shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.
The spring event “Illumination of Weeping Cherry Blossoms and Daimyo Teien” will once again be held this year.
During the event period, the garden will stay open until 21:00 instead of the usual 17:00.

Weeping cherry trees grow to about 15 meters in height and 20 meters in width.
Weeping cherry blossoms bloom about one week before usual Yoshino cherry blossoms, and they are in full bloom around the end of March. The rest of the garden is also illuminated along with the cherry blossoms, so visitors can enjoy a different atmosphere in the evening than during the day.
Additionally, the tea house located in Rikugi-en also extends its hours during the event period. We recommend taking advantage of this and enjoying tea and sweets as you gaze at the night sky!
