Recommended Spot (1): Tokyo's Ueno Zoo

This was Japan's first zoo, opening in 1882.
Inside a 14-hectare park, over 500 species of animals are bred here, making its variety the second largest in all of Japan.
This is the only zoo in Tokyo raising Giant Pandas.
On June 12, 2017, a Giant Panda named Xiang-Xiang was born here, and her growth has been extensively covered by the media.
For the time being, starting in February of 2018, numbered tickets to watch Xiang-Xiang and her mother, Xin-Xin, are offered to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. How about going there to see an adorable baby panda?

Recommended Spot (2): Tokyo's Tama Zoo

Tama Zoo is one of the largest in Japan, with an overall surface area of 52.3 hectares.
About 320 different kinds of animals and insects are on display here.
It's divided into 4 distinct areas: Asia Park, Africa Park, Australia Park and Insect Park.
One attractive feature of this zoo is that animals are shown in the free-roam method, surrounded by trenches instead of fences to display them in freedom.
The 10-meter high, 150-meter long Skywalk that Orangutans cross is popular with visitors. (It's open from 11:30 am, March through November. It's closed in rainy weather.)
Since it takes about 7 km of walking on a lot of hills to go around and see all the animals, it's wise to use a free shuttle bus inside the zoo to get around.
