Lunch at Tuna Specialty Restaurant “Maguro no Entoki” in Osaka!

Writer : takoyakikun

“Maguro no Entoki Shinsaibashi Store” opened in 2016.
It’s a wholesale tuna shop located in Osaka’s Kuromon Ichiba market, and it’s known for being somewhere you can get fresh tuna at a good price.
I heard that they serve a delicious tuna donburi (rice bowl) at lunchtime, so I hurried up and went for a visit.

Their lunch menu consists only of the tuna donburi. In the evening the shop becomes an izakaya that specializes in tuna dishes.

The lunch dishes start at 780 yen. That’s pretty cheap!

9 Types of Tuna Donburi on the Lunch Menu

I ordered the Pacific bluefin tuna and southern bluefin tuna.
It’s really surprising how many types of donburi they have for just tuna.
They all looked so good, so I had trouble choosing!

You can get a larger portion of rice for just 50 yen extra. A super-large portion costs 150 yen.

The interior looks like a sushi restaurant.
There are counter seats and a few table seats. There are also seats available on the second floor.

The Special Bluefin Tuna Donburi comes with lean, fatty, and cooked fatty bluefin tuna, as well as negitoro and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet).
This is perfect for if you want to try a little bit of a variety of things!

Fresh Tuna

You can tell how fresh the tuna is just by looking at it.
Getting this many thick slices of tuna at this price is a great deal!

Miso Soup

At lunchtime, all of the donburi come with a bowl of red miso soup.
Delicious.

Lean Tuna

First off, I tried the lean tuna as-is.
It was super fresh and insanely delicious!

Next, I poured wasabi and soy sauce over the whole donburi.
The restaurant has two types of soy sauce available: a house-made one with some sweetness to it, and sashimi soy sauce.

Fatty Tuna

It was so delicious, melting away the moment it was in my mouth!
This same single bite at a high-class sushi restaurant would cost you over 1000 yen.

I was really happy to find that the rice in the donburi was vinegared rice.
The slight acidity was refreshing, and it was super delicious!

I occasionally refreshed my palette with the pickled ginger.

Cooking this brought out strong umami and sweetness from the meat to the point that it was almost like eating beef! It was aromatic and delicious!

Negitoro

Negitoro is made by chopping up the remaining meat from between the tuna’s bones into a fine paste with green onions.
It’s a different kind of delicious flavor than the slices of meat. The clean and refreshing flavor of the green onions paired perfectly with the sticky texture of the tuna.

I was super satisfied with this tuna donburi, packed with fresh fish!
I’d love to come back regularly and try out the whole menu.
