Lately, when you think of Shinsekai in Osaka, it’s become synonymous with kushikatsu. The restaurant that started this new trend is “Kushikatsu Daruma.” There are currently 18 locations of “Kushikatsu Daruma.” Even just within Shinsekai, where the chain originated, there are 4 locations, “Shinsekai Honten,” “Janjan,” “Tsutenkaku,” and “Dobutsuenmae.” This time, I decided to visit the largest location of them, “Kushikatsu Daruma Dobutsuenmae.”
On December 27th of 2018, the izakaya “Aomori Nebuta World Shinbashi Store” opened. The restaurant is themed after the famous “Aomori Nebuta Matsuri,” a festival held in Aomori Prefecture, and the interior decorations beautifully capture the moving atmosphere of the festival!
The trip to Tohoku’s gateway station, Sendai Station, takes about 90 minutes on the Shinkansen from Tokyo. If you walk a bit past Sendai’s main city area, you can find many delicious varieties of alcohol born from the rich nature of Tohoku. This time, I took a trip to both a distillery where you can sample whiskey for free and Miyagi Prefecture’s one and only winery.
