On this trip I enjoyed the beautiful tourist spot of Magome-juku in the Kiso valley of Gifu prefecture. The towns Feudal-era buildings and inns have been well preserved since the Edo era.
Every year, the large numbers of people that visit this area are surprised at how many flowers are blooming as early as January! The flowers look like they could be a solid carpet of yellow! Visiting Kamogawa in the early spring to see it covered in rape flowers, and even enjoying picking them, is great fun!

For 2017’s hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the new year), I visited Kawasaki Daishi, another name for the temple Heiken-ji. Kawasaki Daishi is the most popular place for hatsumode visits in Kanagawa Prefecture, an area near Tokyo.
There are three sites to enjoy the Sapporo Snow Festival: Odori site, Tsudome site, and Susukino site.The concepts for the festival are different at each site, making for triple the fun! Admission is free!
