Every year a grand cherry blossom festival is held in Fukuoka City’s Maizuru Park, where around 1000 cherry trees bloom beautifully in the spring.
Fukuoka Castle, with a history of over 400 years, also stands in the park’s grounds. (The castle is sometimes also referred to as Maizuru Castle.)
During the cherry blossom festival, the park is packed with people coming to look at the flowers, all the way into the night!

Why not try visiting winter locations in Tokyo’s neighboring Saitama Prefecture’s Chichibu? This area is 3 hours away from Ikebukuro by bus or the Seibu Line. I’ve come to visit the back-country areas of Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. First off, I stopped to appreciate the artful ice formations!
Mito City's Kairakuen Garden is a famous plum blossom viewing spot. And on weekends during the period of the Plum Blossom Festival you can get from Ueno Station to the temporary Kairakuen Station by special limited express trains "Hitachi" and "Tokiwa" in about an hour.
Located in Northern Japan, Eastern Hokkaido is a region overflowing with winter attractions. Among those, I'd especially like to tell you about the extremely popular drift ice. In the latter half, I'll introduce a highly recommended way to go sightseeing in comfort: by excursion bus!
